Liverpool's enormous illuminated moon is coming back as dates finally released

Luke Jerram’s Museum of the Moon made waves in Liverpool earlier this year when it was displayed inside Liverpool Cathedral .

For those who missed it - or just want to see it again - the giant moon will be suspended inside Warrington’s Parr Hall this autumn.

The artwork will be installed at the hall to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing and will be completely free to visit.

Museum of the Moon, which measures seven metres in diameter, features high resolution detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface.

Luke Jerram, creator of Museum of the Moon, said: “From the beginning of human history, the moon has acted as a ‘cultural mirror’ to our beliefs, understanding and ways of seeing.

“Over the centuries, the moon has been interpreted as a god and as a planet; it has been used as a timekeeper, calendar and to aid night-time navigation.

“Throughout history the moon has inspired artists, poets, scientists, writers and musicians the world over.

“Different cultures around the world have their own historical, cultural, scientific and religious relationships to the moon.

“Museum of the Moon allows us to observe and contemplate cultural similarities and differences around the world, and consider the latest moon science.”

Museum of the Moon will be displayed at Parr Hall from October 4 - 14, 2019.
