Liverpool's Divock Origi transfer stance in January amid Newcastle United rumours

Liverpool will not allow Divock Origi to leave on the cheap during this month's transfer window.

Origi has been the subject of increasing speculation over his future with a number of clubs rumoured to be considering a move for the 26-year-old forward.

Newly-rich Newcastle United are reportedly eyeing a swoop for the Belgium international, with claims a £7million bid could be imminent.

Liverpool, though, have not yet received any approach from the Magpies and have no intention of selling Origi this month. They have also received no word from the player that he wants to leave during the transfer window.

In any case, the Reds have noted the fee Newcastle have this week paid to take Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid, an initial £12m - which is understood could eventually rise to £25m with add-ons - for a 31-year-old who was out of contract in the summer but with a clause for a 12-month extension Atletico could have triggered depending on the number of games played this season.

Liverpool are in a similar situation with Origi, although that the forward hasn't started a Premier League match this term leaves the Reds open to the possibility the player could walk away for nothing in the summer.

Origi is currently able to talk to clubs from abroad with reports in Italy suggesting three Serie A clubs have approached his representatives to discuss a potential free transfer.

The striker has scored five goals in 10 appearances this campaign for Liverpool, but has made only four starts.

Origi hasn't featured since scoring the winner in the Champions League group match at AC Milan a month ago due to a knee injury, but is likely to be involved if fit over the coming weeks with both Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane away on Africa Cup of Nations duty.
