Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren announced the heartbreaking loss of his dog on Thursday.
The Champions League winner shared the upsetting news with his fans on social media.
In a touching tribute posted to Instagram, Lovren added two pictures of himself and pet dog Loki.
On the first image the Croatian international is asleep next to the adorable pug.
In the next photo the 29-year-old is cuddling an older looking Loki.
Lovren added the emotional caption: "You will remain forever in my heart, rest in peace my Loki, goodbye".
Messages of support and sympathy poured in as fans expressed their condolences.
One Instagram user wrote: "So sorry for your loss." Another replied: "Rest in peace little one."
While one fan said: "This is heartbreaking. Dogs really are mans best friend."
