The covid infection rate in Liverpool has risen by almost 50% in just seven days.
According to the latest data from Public Health England, Liverpool had 3,486 positive covid infections in the seven days ending December 18 - that's 1,114 more positive tests than the previous seven days.

This meant the week-on-week percentage change figure rose by 47% in Liverpool.
The remaining five local government areas of Liverpool City Region reported big rises in covid cases. The week-on-week percentage change figures rose by: 24% in Knowsley; 21% in Halton; 39% in St Helens; 37% in Sefton; and, 30% in Wirral.
In the Liverpool City Region, the week-on-week percentage change figure surged by 36%.
In Warrington, West Lancs, and Cheshire West and Chester, infections also increased.
And infections increased in England in the week ending December 18. The country recorded 512,299 coronavirus cases in England - that's 205,418 more cases than in the previous seven days.
Liverpool
Liverpool's positive tests came to 3,486 cases in the week ending December 18, which is 1,114 more cases than in the previous week.

Halton
There were 883 positive tests over the last week, which is 152 more cases than in the previous week.
This means the week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 21% in Halton in the week ending December 18.
The latest infection rate is 680.5 cases per 100,000 people.
St Helens
There was a total of 1,002 cases in the week ending December 18, which is 279 more cases than in the previous week.
The latest infection rate in St Helens is 553.3 cases per 100,000 people and the week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 39%.
Knowsley
There was a total of 904 cases in the week ending December 18, which is 172 more cases than in the previous week.
The latest infection rate in Knowsley is 593.0 cases per 100,000 people and the week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 24%.
Wirral
There were 2,110 positive tests in the week ending December 18, which is 489 more cases than in the previous week.
Wirral 's week-on-week percentage change figure increased by 30%. The latest infection rate was 650.6 cases per 100,000 people.
Sefton
Sefton had a total of 1,682 cases in the week ending December 18, which is a 458 more cases than in the previous week.
The latest infection rate is 609.6 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases increased by 37% week on week.
Liverpool City Region
There were 10,067 positive tests over in the week ending December 18, which is 2,664 more cases than in the previous week.
This means the week-on-week percentage change increased by 36%. The latest infection rate is 591.22 cases per 100,000 people.
West Lancs
West Lancashire recorded 597 coronavirus cases in the week ending December 18, which is 140 more cases than in the previous seven days.
This meant there was a week-on-week percentage figure increased by 31%. The infection rate was 521.41 per 100,000 people.
Warrington
There were 1,755 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending December 18, which is 539 more cases than the previous week.
The week-on-week percentage figure increased by 44%. There was an infection rate of 838.12 per 100,000 people.
Cheshire West and Chester
There were 2,565 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending December 18, which is 396 more cases than the previous week.
The latest infection rate is 746.02 cases per 100,000 people, and there was a week-on-week percentage increase of 18% in cases.
England
In the week ending December 18, England recorded 512,299 coronavirus cases, which is 205,418 more cases than in the previous seven days.
There was a week-on-week percentage increase of 67% in cases nationally, and there was an infection rate of 905.92 per 100,000 people.
