Liverpool's coronavirus rate lowest in more than six months

Liverpool’s coronavirus rate has dropped to below 50 cases per 100,000 people for the first time in more than six months.

According to data released by Liverpool Council, the latest infection rate was 48.2 cases per 100,000 people in the week up to March 16.

The city recorded 240 cases in those seven days.

A report compiled by the council said the infection rate was the lowest it had been since early September.

The report said: “Data extracted covering testing up to 16 March 2021 show that the total number of confirmed cases for the last 7 days is 240, a decrease of 26 cases on the previous week.

“The latest weekly rate of COVID-19 in Liverpool is 48.2 per 100,000 population and the latest positivity testing rate* is 2.5%.

“Liverpool now has the lowest 7 days infection rates since the first week in September 2020, in the last day we have seen a decrease of 2 cases.”

No wards have an infection rate above 100 cases per 100,000 people for the first time in months.

However, a number of wards still have higher infection levels.

Knotty Ash’s infection rate is 99.4, Everton’s infection rate is 95.4 and Kirkdale’s infection rate is 95.3.
