Liverpool's Concert Square, Castle Street and Bold Street packed on first weekend after lockdown eases

The city centre was once again packed with customers this afternoon as bars, pubs and restaurants reopened for the first weekend after lockdown restrictions were lifted.

Across Liverpool, the streets were once more buzzing with life after months of lockdown measures saw all hospitality venues closed.

As the sun shone down many bars and restaurants in Concert Square, Bold Street, Castle Street, Mathew Street and Liverpool ONE bustling with customers enjoying a meal or a pint outside.

These venues are now allowed to reopen for outdoor hospitality under the easing of lockdown restrictions.

The government's Step 2 allows pubs and restaurants to serve customers with drinks and meals outside only. There is no curfew in place and no need for alcohol to be accompanied by a 'substantial meal'.

Today, Concert Square was expectedly full of friends catching up for drinks, with every table full. There were also queues outside Einstein and McCooley's.

In Liverpool ONE, lots of people were taking advantage of Boujee's huge pink-themed outdoor garden in Chanvasse Park.

Over on Castle Street, there was a continental atmosphere as drinkers and diners soaked up the sun while enjoying a glass of wine or a meal.

Bold Street was also busy with many people taking advantage of the sunny weather with outdoor tables full the whole length of the street.

There was also lots of activity on Mathew Street, with people even get to enjoy a drink with a Beatles legend on a table beside John Lennon's statue.

Elsewhere, there was also a huge queue outside Pins on Duke Street.

Pubs, bars and restaurants are due to reopen fully from May 17 as part of Step Three.
