Liverpool's Carabao Cup warning for Arsenal ahead of fourth round tie at Anfield

Liverpool will "attack the Carabao Cup" and have their sights set on a place in the quarter-finals ahead of the fourth round clash with Arsenal.

That's the message from Liverpool's assistant manager Pep Lijnders, who has been speaking to the media ahead of the game against Arsenal at Anfield tomorrow (Wednesday).

The Premier League leaders go into the game off the back of a 2-1 win against Tottenham, which restored their six-point lead at the top of the table, while Arsenal currently sit fifth after a 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace.

But Lijnders said that the Carabao Cup is important to the Reds as well, adding that they won't be taking the game lightly.

"We will attack this competition. We are one game away from the last eight," he said, speaking at his pre-match press conference.

"We want quality and identity in our game and freshness is important.

"We will have to be at our best in all departments and our team selection will show that."

Liverpool could make changes for the game though, with some of their younger players in contention to feature, with Lijnders insisting that the squad depth allows them to make changes.

"It wouldn't be intelligent to make the squad smaller by not using it's strength. One of it's strength is the power of the youth. You have seen that before," he said.

"We have some special (young) talent. It would not be intelligent not to use it.

"We want to dictate play, it's our ball. By focusing on ourselves, that forces development of the boys. Let the opposition worry about us and let us focus on ourselves.

"It's important the youngsters are training around the first team. It creates a natural development for them. They can see with their own eyes the small detail. Not much more powerful weapon than examples of senior pros."
