Liverpool's Ben Davies told "be stronger" after painful Sheffield United debut

Ben Davies enjoyed a less-than-ideal start to his Sheffield United career, having sealed his loan move last week.

The Reds defender would have been eager to return to league action, having not featured for Liverpool since arriving from Preston North End in January.

However, it turned out to be a tough day at the office for the 26-year-old, who was starting his first game in seven months.

Recently relegated Sheffield United looked to have sealed their second point of the season, as they claimed a late equaliser against Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield - but Levi Colwill broke Blades hearts as he netted a 94th minute winner.

Davies was blamed for the decisive goal by Dean Ashton, who was analysing the game for EFL on Quest.

"I am sorry but, Ben Davies , you have to be stronger than that," the former West Ham striker said.

"[Harry] Toffolo just shoved him out of the way and it was very tight but Colwill was definitely behind him.

"You have got to be stronger than that.”

The furthest defender back, Davies was the man responsible as Huddersfield broke through the Sheffield United backline to provide an easy finish for Colwill, with the result placing the team in the relegation places after four games.

Having suffered relegation and appointed Slavisa Jokanovic as manager earlier this summer, Ashton insisted that fans could be encouraged by United's display but the club do need to pick up positive results.

"Something has to change and the confidence levels need to improve”, he said.

"But if I was a Sheffield United fan, I would be happy with the performance."
