Liverpool's Andy Robertson labelled 'freak' by defender trying to surpass him

Andy Robertson has been called a 'freak of nature' and European football’s best player in his position by a fellow left-back.

England international Danny Rose – who was part of the team that got to the World Cup semi-finals in 2018 – reckons the Liverpool ace now sets the benchmark of excellence in their respective roles.

Rose, who is currently on loan at Newcastle United from Tottenham Hotspur, is quoted by The Scotsman as telling the Lockdown Tactics podcast: “He’s been the best left-back in England and, maybe, Europe for the past two years.

“For me, he is the one I’m looking to catch, without a doubt. He is the best. Andy Robertson looks like a freak of nature.

“I watch him play and in every game he gives the same commitment. His consistency levels are extremely high. He is just brilliant.”

Rose, 29, highlights the incredible strides that Robertson has made since departing relegated Hull City for Anfield in 2017.

He said: “We played Hull City four or five years ago at White Hart Lane and Robertson was playing for Hull, as was Harry Maguire.

“I wouldn’t have noticed Robertson at that time, if I’m being honest, but he then moved to Liverpool and he has been the best left-back for them.”
