Liverpool's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain pinpoints what Arsenal have been lacking for years

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has praised the winning mentality at Liverpool, something the midfielder believes his former club Arsenal lacked.

Oxlade-Chamberlain moved to Anfield from Arsenal in a £40million deal in August 2017, with the midfielder winning the Champions League last season.

Liverpool have enjoyed a stunning start to the season, sitting eight points clear at the top of the Premier League, and are on course for a first league title in 30 years.

The England midfielder was rarely in contention for the league crown during his eight-years at the Emirates, and Oxlade-Chamberlain says this is due to the difference in mentality between the sides.

"I’m going into it [a game] with the mindset that we’re going to win. I think that’s how we all feel," the England international told PA.

"We’re going into the games expecting ourselves to win and anything else we’re disappointed with.

"I think that’s credit to the good work that we’ve done as a team over the last few years to be in that position. There’s times in my career where I definitely haven’t gone into all games 100% confident that the team’s going to come away winning but with this team, I have that sort of belief in us.

"I think that’s the mentality you need to be successful, to have those high standards that nothing else is acceptable. Then you’ve got to let history take its course.

"Obviously it might not happen every time but when you’re going into games with that sort of mindset and belief it simplifies everything else."

The 26-year-old has started Liverpool's last two league matches, and will be in contention to start against Everton in the Merseyside derby on Wednesday night.
