Liverpool's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Man City's Raheem Sterling both invest £1m in sports venture

Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Manchester City's Raheem Sterling's respective clubs are locked in a fierce title race.

But off the field the pair have become global ambassadors for GPS sports tracking company STATSports.

The England team-mates are each said to have invested more than £1million into the software which monitors performance of athletes.

According to Forbes magazine, the Ireland-based business is said to be one of the global leaders of wearable technology and products such as the Viper Pod vest are used by a lot of elite clubs including Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham.

The special vests track and analyse heart-rates, speed and overall fitness.

All of the data collected is subsequently analysed by sports scientists and used to help players reach their peak level of performance.

Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sterling are both long-time admirers of the products.

The Reds' midfielder, who has not featured for Jurgen Klopp's first-team this season, described his decision for becoming an ambassador and investing in the company.

The 25-year-old said: "I have chosen STATSports above all potential investments. It’s a brand and product I have known and trusted for the last 10 years of my footballing career.

"Working with STATSports at Southampton, Arsenal, Liverpool and with England, I know this is the best product on the market by far."

While the former Liverpool attacker, Sterling, revealed: "I use STATSports technology every single day for both City and England and have done for years, so I know how valuable it is for getting the best out of me for the team.

"STATSports has already made a big name for itself in the elite game but it’s clear to me that there is huge potential for the technology and that is why I’ve invested."
