Liverpool rocked by Naby Keita injury in warm up ahead of Sheffield United

Naby Keita handed Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp a fresh injury scare after being withdrawn late on from Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Sheffield United.

The midfielder was named in the Reds’ starting XI to face the Blades for their first league outing of 2020, but dropped out of the squad shortly before kick off after appearing to pick up an injury during the warm up.

Keita was seen waiting to speak to fitness coach Andreas Kornmayer before leaving the field after the warm up, with early reports suggesting he could have suffered a groin injury.

Vice-captain James Milner stepped up to take the 24-year-old’s place, with youngster Neco Williams taking up the final place in the matchday squad.

With Liverpool currently down to 13 senior outfield players following injuries to the likes of Fabinho, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Joel Matip, Klopp will be left sweating over the fitness of Keita, who has repeatedly suffered from injuries since joining the club at the start of last season.

However, his options will be strengthened slightly for Sunday’s Merseyside derby clash with Everton in the FA Cup.

January signing Takumi Minamino will be eligible to make his debut.
