Liverpool restaurant Six by Nico remains closed after leak issue

Popular Liverpool restaurant Six by Nico remains closed due to an ongoing leak issue.

The North John Street concept venue, which specialises in a six course tasting menu with regularly changing themes, has informed would-be customers that it has had to remain closed to bookings as it deals with the issue.

In an email sent to a customer this weekend, seen by the ECHO, the business explained: "We're afraid we have had to close our diary at the moment as there has been a leak in the restaurant basement that we are investigating. Until we can confirm the issue and solution we have made the decision to close bookings to avoid any future disappointment."

In August the business was forced to close due to flooding - and has kept its doors shut ever since.

At the time a spokesperson for the business said it had been forced to call in experts to deal with the problem, which had been traced back to issues with the roof of the seven-storey building.

The latest issue comes in what has been a difficult year for Six By Nico. Last October the restaurant was given a zero star food hygiene rating in October last year. An inspection report said major improvement was necessary in the area of 'hygienic food handling'.

The inspection also focused on the appropriateness of the layout of Six by Nico, the restaurant's ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control. Things had significantly improved by February of this year as the restaurant was handed a three-star rating.

The chain restaurant also has branches in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Belfast, Manchester, London and Dublin.

At the time of the closure, A spokesman said: “It’s extremely disappointing that we’ve had to take this decision, but the problems caused by water leaking into the basement mean we had no option.

“We are in the process of contacting our customers to let them know about the closure and will inform them as soon as we know when we can reopen.

“We have been in discussions with the landlord and have asked them to address the problem urgently so that we can reopen as soon as possible. We don’t yet have a definitive timetable, but we appreciate it’s hugely frustrating for everyone, including our staff and we are very keen to get the issue resolved so that we can get back to serving the people of Liverpool.”
