Liverpool restaurant refusing to serve 'overrated turkey' this Christmas

In a controversial take, Lu Ban Liverpool has vehemently rejected all turkey-related festivities and instead has launched an untraditional festive menu.

A tweet from executive chef Dave Critchley said: “Unpopular opinion. Turkey at Christmas is overrated.

“It’s not even that nice.

“Join the revolution at @lubanliverpool no turkey butties, turkey curries, turkey loaded fries, pizzas or any other turkey related swag this month.

“Just more of this…”

Attached is a picture of the restaurant’s duck leg which Dave says is seasoned for 12 hours in smoked salt, brown sugar and five spice before being roasted low and slow for 12 hours on cherry wood planks, then finally grilled for crispy skin.

The tweet seems to have brought other turkey haters out of the woodworks, with one fellow TV chef, Alan Coxon, replying: “I once decided not to put turkey on my restaurant Christmas day menu and the restaurant was fully booked.

“On publishing a turkey free menu I had cancelation after cancelation.

“No choice than to reinstate it back on the menu.

“On the day itself I received not one order for Turkey.”

Critchley commented that everyone expects it to be on the menu but deep down, would not choose it on a menu.

Several concurred citing the dryness of turkey with one even calling it “just a bigger and dryer chicken”.

Lu Ban Liverpool has released a Chinese style Christmas menu in a nod to its Tianjin influences.

The menu, unsurprisingly, does not have a turkey breast of mince pie in sight.

Instead, it includes a trio of starters with the option to add roast duck and pancakes, four main courses including a chicken, pork, salmon and vegetarian option and four Chinese style desserts.

The Christmas package costs £45 per guest on Thursdays and Fridays between 3pm and 4pm, and goes up to £60 after 5pm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Lu Ban also has a festive brunch option for £39.50.
