Liverpool will not allow Xherdan Shaqiri to leave on the cheap after Lyon made an approach for the attacking midfielder.
Shaqiri has told the Reds of his desire for a new challenge having seen his first-team action limited in recent seasons.
And while Lyon have registered a firm interest in the 29-year-old, the ECHO understands they are a “long way apart” from Liverpool over their valuation of the player.
The Reds want to at the very least recoup the £12million they paid to take Shaqiri from Stoke City three years ago.
Liverpool are mindful of the fact Shaqiri still has two years remaining on his contract, with his stock having risen after an impressive run to the Euro 2020 quarter-finals with Switzerland.
And Lyon will have to considerably increase their offer if they are to prise the former Bayern Munich away from Anfield.
Sevilla, Villarreal, Napoli and Lazio are among a number of potential suitors with whom Shaqiri and his representatives have already held talks over a move.
Shaqiri was not involved in either Anfield friendlies against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday and Osasuna on Monday having been omitted as a precaution.
