Liverpool have reminded Harvey Elliott of his responsibilities after an offensive video appeared online on Wednesday night of the Reds youngster mocking Harry Kane.
The Snapchat footage, which began circulating across social media, appeared to show Elliott performing an distasteful impersonation of England captain Kane.
Elliott was quick to offer an apology on his Instagram story, admitting his actions, believed to have been filmed during the Champions League final, were both "immature and senseless" .
Liverpool are refusing to discipline the teenager at this stage, preferring to offer education over punishment for the 16-year-old, who became the club's second signing of the summer last week.
The ECHO understands club officials have made it clear to Elliott that his actions are viewed as unacceptable and have stated that any repeat will result in disciplinary action.
Liverpool have also reminded the teenager of his new-found profile as a footballer for one of the biggest clubs in the world and stated the video is not what they expect from employees at Anfield.
New players undergo extensive training on what they should and shouldn't post online after signing for the club and Elliott will be reprimanded if another incident occurs while at Anfield.
A club spokesperson said: "The club believes Harvey is right in offering a full and unreserved apology for the comments made in the video.
"Clearly the use of such language is completely wrong and not in keeping with our values or what we would expect from any employee.
"Given the clip was recorded prior to the player signing for the club and was not in the public domain at that time, we won’t be making any further comment publicly."
Elliott turned in a lively cameo for the Reds as they beat Lyon 3-1 at Stade de Geneve on Wednesday night before offering a contrite and mature apology on social media after the game.
He wrote: "I would just like to wholeheartedly apologise for any offence caused on the back of a video of me currently circulating on the internet.
"The video was taken whilst messing around with friends in a private environment and was not directed at any individual but I realise that my actions were both immature and senseless.
"I would like to stress that the contents of the video do not represent who I am as a person or how I've been brought up, and I am truly sorry."
