Liverpool are remaining tight-lipped over claims they have signed up for a European Super League aimed at rivalling the Champions League.
Reports in The Times on Sunday suggest the Reds are among five Premier League teams to have given their backing to the breakaway plan on the eve of UEFA announcing radical changes to the Champions League format.
Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have also signed up, with The Times stating league leaders Manchester City have yet to make a firm decision.
The ECHO contacted Liverpool for a comment with the club keeping their counsel on the matter.
Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group are thought to have been heavily involved in discussions regarding the reshaping of European football, which has assumed greater significance in the wake of ongoing financial restrictions of the coronavirus pandemic.
UEFA are due to announce on Monday a new 36-team Champions League format which will come into force from 2024, having gained the support of the European Club Association board.
The new-look competition would see clubs playing 10 group games instead of six before the usual knockout tournament from the round of 16.
Details of the proposed breakaway Super League first emerged earlier in the year, in which there would be 15 permanent founding members and five other clubs who would qualify on an annual basis.
