Liverpool have apologised and thanked fans for their patience after some supporters were left outside queuing to get into Anfield after the game had kicked off on Saturday.
The Reds have installed a new ticketing system at the stadium which delayed a number of fans from gaining entry into the arena for the first home game of the season against Burnley last week.
And again, for this weekend’s visit of Chelsea in the Premier League, some of the club’s loyal followers endured similar problems and missed the start of the match.
Liverpool, welcoming returning fans back on a regular basis for the first time in a year-and-a-half, acknowledged the issues in a statement and were sorry for the inconvenience caused.
“We’d like to give a huge thank you to all our supporters who attended our home fixture today against Chelsea for their patience and support whilst accessing Anfield,” the statement read.
“As with the Burnley game, a number of changes have recently been made to our stadium access processes and the cooperation of supporters today was exemplary.
“Today saw improvements from last week but we know there were a number of supporters still outside Anfield at kick-off time for which we apologise.
“From our first two home games in 18 months, we recognise that there is still more work to do to get this right and to provide the best possible matchday experience for our supporters.
“We will continue learning from these experiences and plan to resolve any and all outstanding issues promptly and effectively.”
Following Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea, Jurgen Klopp’s men are next in action at home on Wednesday, September 15 when the Reds open their Champions League campaign against Italian giants Milan.
