Liverpool and their Premier League rivals can make transfer moves from Saturday, January 2 when the January window opens.
With several injuries in defence, the Reds are being linked with transfer moves for a few players in that position, while there is also a claim from Italy that another Premier League side are interested in Gini Wijnaldum.
These are your transfer rumours rated on Thursday, December 31, with the transfer window is just a couple of days away from opening.
Wolves 'want Wijnaldum'
Who?
Gini Wijnaldum, the 30-year-old Liverpool midfielder whose contract expires at the end of this season.
What?
According to Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness ), Wijnaldum is being eyed up by Wolves as a possible free transfer in the summer.
Liverpool fans will still hope that Wijnaldum can sign a new contract and extend his stay on Merseyside.
But the more time ticks by, the more likely a move away seems, with Wijnaldum able to negotiate a move abroad ahead of the summer from tomorrow.
But a move to Wolves? That would certainly not appear too appealing for the Dutchman.
A move to Barcelona could be of interest, but switching to a lesser side in England would be nonsensical.
£54m defender rejected
Who?
Milan Skriniar, the Slovakia and Inter Milan centre-back.
What?
Liverpool have reportedly decided against making a transfer move for the defender because he would cost too much.
In fairness, it is highly unlikely they would ever spend £54m on a defender this January - but was he really ever on the shortlist to begin with?
Calciomercato believe so, and they add that Perr Schuurs and Ozan Kabak are also on the agenda for the Reds.
Any move for a centre-back, though, would have to be the right one.
Do any of those names fit the bill exactly for Liverpool, and would not cost a huge amount? It seems more likely at this stage that the Reds will go with what they have until the summer.
Liverpool 'insist' on Brazilian
Who?
Torino defender Gleison Bremer.
What?
Via Sport Witness, reports in Brazil claim that Premier League teams including Liverpool have sent 'requests’ for the Brazilian defender have been sent ‘through intermediaries’.
These requests have come ‘above all, with some insistence’ from Liverpool, who are supposedly ‘desperate’ to find a replacement for Virgil van Dijk.
But would Bremer be the right fit, either? The 23-year-old is highly-rated, but when Van Dijk and Joe Gomez return, he might be struggling for minutes.
That, in a nutshell, is the big consideration for Liverpool to make this window, with their central defensive problem's solution not as easy as it might appear.
Serie A stalwart wanted
Who?
Roger Ibanez of AS Roma.
What?
Arsenal have 'joined Liverpool' in the race to sign the defender, according to reports in Italy.
Calciomercato claims that ‘immovable point’ Ibanez, presumably a reference to his defensive capabilities, who has recently cemented his place at the heart of Roma’s defence, is interesting Arsenal the most.
But Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool are also said to be keen.
Leicester and Everton are also name-dropped as interested parties, with Ibanez set to cost €30-35m.
Ten per cent of the sale price, though, would be going to former club Atalanta, adding a layer of complication to negotiations.
