Liverpool receive huge injury blow amid top four race with Chelsea, Tottenham and West Ham

Just as Liverpool appear to have struck form at a vital time in the race for top four - they have been handed an injury blow with only three games left to play.

Diogo Jota has been ruled out of not just Sunday afternoon's crucial clash away at already relegated West Brom - but for the remainder of the season, unwelcome news as the Reds try to stay in the race for Champions League football next season.

The Portugal star has been a shining light in an otherwise dismal season for Liverpool, who have fallen well short of retaining their Premier League crown.

Jota has bagged nine goals in 18 Premier League appearances, with fellow Liverpool forward Sadio Mane struggling for form - the former Wolves man is likely to be a big miss in the last few fixtures.

It is thought the forward sustained the injury during Thursday night's impressive 4-2 win over Manchester United - the first time Klopp has recorded a win over the Red Devils at Old Trafford.

The club wrote: "Diogo Jota will miss today’s Premier League clash at West Bromwich Albion due to injury.

"The forward sustained a foot issue during Thursday’s 4-2 victory at Manchester United and therefore won’t be involved at The Hawthorns.

"Jurgen Klopp is expected to give a further update on Jota’s condition during his media duties at the fixture."

Jota's ninth league goal of the season levelled the scoring on the night after United took the lead, with the Portuguese attacker dispatching a stunning back-heeled effort beyond Dean Henderson, who could do little but watch the strike nestle in the bottom corner.

Liverpool's last couple of clashes after Sunday's trip to the Hawthorns see them travel to Burnley before drawing the disappointing season to a close with a home tie against Crystal Palace.

It will be the first time Klopp ends a season without some form of silverware to lift since 2018, after tasting Champions League glory in 2019 followed by their 30-year wait for a Premier League title coming to an end last season.
