Liverpool quartet make PFA Team of the Year but no place for Mohamed Salah or Alisson

Four Liverpool players have been named in the PFA Team of the Year with defensive trio Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson making the cut alongside forward Sadio Mane.

Centre-back Van Dijk is favourite to land the individual gong as PFA Players' Player of the Year but there is no place in this year's team for last year's winner, Mohamed Salah .

Manchester City's 2-0 win over neighbours United has put them a point ahead of the Reds with both sides having three games remaining and it's the reigning Premier League champions who have the edge in this line-up with six of their players compared to Liverpool's quartet.

Pep Guardiola's half dozen on the list include goalkeeper Ederson who gets the nod despite playing second fiddle to Alisson with the Brazil national team; centre-back Aymeric Laporte; midfield duo Fernandinho and Bernardo Silva plus attacking pair Sergio Aguero and former Liverpool player Raheem Sterling .

The only player from outside the Premier League's runaway top-two clubs to make his way into the side is Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, a choice which is seen as controversial by many given the way his form has blown hot and cold over an inconsistent season.
