Liverpool pubs rammed as England fans watch Euro 2020

Liverpool city centre was buzzing as people enjoyed watching the first England game of Euro 2020 today.

Fans took to venues including the fan zone on Seel Street, where there was a massive marquee set up especially for people to watch the tournament.

People also packed out Abbey Road Bar and Kitchen on Harrington Street and McCooleys on Mathew Street.

The Euros kicked off on Friday with Italy beating Turkey 3-0 and the tournament will run until July 11 with 11 host cities staging the 51 fixtures.

The tournament was due to run this time last year, but was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Today, fans were out to watch England play in their match against Croatia which kicked off at 2pm with England winning 1-0.

Temperatures soared to as high as 23 degrees in some parts of the city.

Tables outside restaurants along Castle Street, Bold Street and in Concert Square were all taken as people met with friends to enjoy an afternoon drink and catch-up ahead of the game.

The government are expected to announce tomorrow if the roadmap out of lockdown will be completed and all remaining restrictions will finally be lifted as planned on June 21.

In the government’s roadmap out of lockdown, that is the date England is due to reach Step 4 when it's hoped all legal limits on social contact will be removed. That means premises including nightclubs will be allowed to reopen, and restrictions on large events and performances will be eased.
