Liverpool proving more popular than Barcelona, Manchester United and Juventus

Liverpool's improved standing in world football has been revealed by the growing number of fans that flocked to the club's website last year - the second highest in the world.

An average 863,00 unique visitors a month made their way to the club's website last year, as Jurgen Klopp's side won the Champions League and lost only one game in the Premier League - that being on 3 January against Manchester City.

This figure was comfortably above the likes of Barcelona (812,000), Manchester United (771,000) and Juventus (582,000), even with the latter bringing in Cristiano Ronaldo to boost its global appeal.

Only Real Madrid, at an admittedly remarkable 2.01million, were able to better Liverpool.

Elsewhere in England, Arsenal were 7th in the table on 420,000; Spurs were 8th on 323,000; and Pep Guardiola's Manchester City were less than a third of Liverpool, on 270,000.

Liverpool has increased significantly its global profile in recent years, building the third-largest YouTube channel by subscriber list, with 3.9million, according to Deloitte.

The club also boasts substantial followings on Instagram (sixth-largest in the world), Twitter (sixth-largest in the world) and Facebook (10th-largest in the world).
