Liverpool prospect signs new long-term contract after loan admission

Adam Lewis is the latest Liverpool prospect to sign a new contract.

The 20-year-old made his first-team debut in February when he started the FA Cup fourth-round replay victory over Shrewsbury Town at Anfield.

Lewis - who can operate at left-back or in midfield - had previously sustained a knee injury with the under-23s last September after being included on the senior pre-season tour of the United States of America.

The full-back was youth-team captain under Steven Gerrard and has been with Liverpool since the age of six but is targeting a loan move next season.

"Sometimes people will ask me why aren’t I at Melwood or training with the first-team, but you’ve got to realise you are playing for the best team in the world," he said.

"This is probably one of the hardest teams to get into right now, so getting out on loan and being around a senior environment will help me as a player because I’ll be training with men."

Liam Coyle, Ben Winterbottom, Vitezslav Jaros and Joe Hardy have all signed fresh terms in recent weeks.
