Liverpool prospect Harvey Elliott is being spoken about 'a lot' at Blackburn Rovers

Liverpool prospect Harvey Elliott has made a flying start to life at Blackburn Rovers in the Championship, with one goal and three assists already to his name.

Reds fans have been keeping an eye on Elliott's progress, and the ECHO got the lowdown on his fantastic start in Lancashire.

Blackburn reporter for LancsLive Jaquob Crooke explained on a special Blood Red podcast that the 17-year-old has settled right in with Tony Mowbray’s side.

Crooke said: "Elliott has settled in extremely well. He made his debut against Watford, which for the Championship is a tough game, and for a 17-year-old to play that maturely is excellent.

"His awareness of when to make the right pass, when to take a player on and when to move far exceeds the decision-making of players that Blackburn already had.

"They can't speak highly enough of him on the training pitches. Mowbray bases a lot of his decisions on the training pitches and if you aren’t impressing, you aren’t going to play.

"But Elliott is one that he talks about a lot in terms of what he is doing with the extra application - he stays longer and is always keen to do video work in the analysis room.

"And he is a vibrant personality as well - all the players get along with him. That rubs off on them when you have someone infectious like that, and everyone has said he's been a brilliant addition so far."

Blackburn was chosen as a destination because of it’s relatively close proximity to Liverpool, with Elliott able to travel the short distance to Lancashire with ease.

His dad has also been doing the same, attending most matches, while Liverpool's staff, including loan pathways and football partnerships manager Julian Ward, are never far away.

Crooke explained: "Blackburn are in conversation with Liverpool a lot. Mowbray has weekly meetings with Liverpool coaching staff to discuss his development.

"Mowbray proposed a big presentation when he wanted to sign him and that impressed Liverpool enough to let them bring him in.

"There is a good relationship between Liverpool and Blackburn - they had the friendly before Project Restart. Mowbray has praised Jurgen Klopp no end over recent months and their style as well - they are a carbon copy in the Championship.

"Mowbray loves Klopp and he is trying to emulate that with the players he has at his disposal, so it is the perfect fit."

While Elliott has certainly been impressing, there are still elements of his game that he needs to get better at - something that he will be able to do throughout the season, provided he stays fit.

Crooke concluded: "There are elements that he needs to improve - he looks for the pass more often than he needs to and he needs to become more selfish in front of goal.

"If he can become more clinical in the final third, that would complete his game, because he is exceptional, and I am sure he will get lots more goals and assists."
