Alexander Isak has given a big update on his fitness while away on international duty with Sweden.
The Liverpool striker, who joined the Reds in a British record transfer from Newcastle back in the summer, is yet to play a full match for his new side.
Isak had a compromised pre-season, travelling to his former club Real Sociedad to train on his own while Newcastle travelled to Asia for their tour.
The Swede finally completed his move to Anfield on September 1, and he made his debut against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, where the Premier League champions won 3-2 thanks to Virgil van Dijk’s late winner.
Isak played 57 minutes that night, and is working his way up to a full game, although manager Arne Slot has been cautious with throwing him in at the deep end.
However, Isak has now declared himself fully fit, and in a much better position than he was in the first international break, where he made a singular substitute appearance in a 2-0 defeat by Kosovo.
“Tomorrow I am ready for 90 minutes if needed,” the striker told reporters ahead of Sweden’s World Cup qualifier against Switzerland on Friday.
“It has been a month now. I have gotten a lot more playing time, and things have calmed down. I feel in a much better position now than last time.”
Isak also opened up on his first month as a Liverpool player.
“Great so far,” he continued.
“A great team and a city where the team has a good relationship with the fans. It has been great so far.”
Isak has played six games in all competitions for his new employers, netting his first and only goal so far in their League Cup victory over Southampton.
