Liverpool predicted starting lineup vs Chelsea with Thiago eligible to make debut

Liverpool face Chelsea on Sunday afternoon as they continue their defence of their Premier League crown.

But Jurgen Klopp will want an improved defensive performance from his side after last weekend’s rollercoaster encounter with newly-promoted Leeds United.

Three times the Reds took the lead.

Three times they were pegged back by Marcelo Bielsa’s men.

Thankfully, Mohamed Salah was outstanding throughout and completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot to secure a 4-3 triumph.

But now a stern test at Stamford Bridge awaits against Frank Lampard’s side, who will have Timo Werner and Kai Havertz leading their attack.

Klopp has no fresh injury concerns ahead of the meeting, with Kostas Tsimikas and Xheridan Shari having returned to training earlier this week.

Both are in contention to make the squad.

New signing Thiago Alcantara is also eligible, after his move from Bayern Munich was completed in time for him to be involved.

However, having not trained fully, it is unlikely that the Spain playmaker will see any action so soon after his arrival.

Diogo Jota, who completed his potential £45million switch from Wolves on Saturday, cannot feature however.

Expect the side who have often been Liverpool ’s go-to in big games to get the nod.

That will mean Fabinho at the heart of midfield, with Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum on either side.

Predicted Liverpool starting lineup: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Fabinho, Wijnaldum; Salah, Firmino, Mane
