Liverpool predicted line-up as two Reds stars face late fitness tests vs Wolves

Liverpool are back in action on Wednesday as they renew what has been a growing rivalry with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The two sides have already met on three occasions this season, all of the ties having ended in controversy. Wolves looked as though they were en-route to a famous FA Cup win at Anfield only to see a contentious VAR decision strip them of victory.

Liverpool then won the replay in the Black Country courtesy of a Harvey Elliott strike. Wolves got their revenge in earnest just a matter of weeks later by completely dismantling the Merseyside outfit in their next Premier League showdown.

Ahead of the next clash between the two, take a look at the side Jurgen Klopp could potentially field...

It’s a relatively simple choice between the sticks for the German schemer. Alisson Becker has long been the club’s number one choice since his arrival from Roma and will start once more.

The defence should remain relatively settled. Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold will be stationed on either flank. In the meantime, Virgil van Dijk should also start fresh off the back of being named in the FIFPRO World XI at a glitzy ceremony in Paris.

He could potentially be joined at the heart of the defence by Frenchman Ibrahima Konate after he rejoined training following a month-long layoff. Defensive colleague Joe Gomez is out with a muscular injury.

Moving into midfield and Liverpool remain down to the bare bones after somewhat of an injury crisis at Anfield. Thiago Alcantara and Arthur Melo are both sidelined, whilst neither James Milner or Naby Keita particularly convinced in the drab stalemate against Crystal Palace.

Both Stefan Bajcetic and Fabinho could be recalled after starting on the bench at Selhurst Park. Whilst Klopp could be tempted to make changes in midfield, he could also be tempted to do the same in attack.

The Reds’ top scorer Mohamed Salah is another certainty to be named in the starting XI for the game having already notched 19 goals already this term. He could be joined by Roberto Firmino - the Brazilian handed his first start in the Premier League since November in place of Cody Gakpo.

There then remains a question over the fitness of Uruguayan frontman Darwin Nunez. He missed the trip to Crystal Palace with a shoulder injury.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s clash, Klopp said: "Darwin trained yesterday with us. Let's see if it's good enough for being part of the squad.”

It would not be unreasonable to suggest that if he is fit then he would likely be called upon to start.

Liverpool starting XI: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Fabinho, Bajcetic; Salah, Firmino, Nunez.
