Nearly 2,000 homes were plunged into darkness earlier today after a fault led to a power cut in the West Derby area.
Customers in the L11, L12 and L13 postcode areas of the city received a message from Scottish Power early this morning to say the power cut was "affecting a large number of customers in a widespread area."
It added: "We had no advance warning of the power cut and only became aware of it at 4.45am."
Scottish Power blamed the power cut on a fault with a high-voltage cable.
Affected customers were eventually connected to an alternative supply so power could be restored. However repairs to the fault are not expected to be completed until tomorrow.
A spokesperson for SP Energy Networks said: "Power supplies to around 1,896 customers in the West Derby area were affected for a short period between 4.40am and 6.04am on Wednesday 13 May following an issue with a high-voltage cable.
"We immediately dispatched a team of engineers to deal with the fault and connected customers to an alternative supply to get the power back on as quickly as possible.
"Our engineers continue to work on site to locate and repair the fault, which we expect to be completed tomorrow.
"We're sorry for any inconvenience caused by this outage and the related repair works, which we will complete as soon as possible."
