Liverpool players will not appear outside Anfield after trophy lift, say Police

Police have stated that rumours of Liverpool players coming outside Anfield to greet fans with the Premier League trophy are false.

The Reds will take on Chelsea in their final home game of the season this evening where they will be presented with the trophy.

Liverpool have ended a 30-year wait for a top flight title and celebrations lasted for days on Merseyside.

Fans have been urged not to repeat the mass gatherings with police saying that rumours of players celebrating outside the ground were "100% untrue".

They tweeted a message saying: "Rumours are circulating on social media about the team making an appearance outside Anfield tonight.

"This 100% will NOT happen. The only place to watch tonight's celebrations is on TV. Please listen to the advice of your manager and players. It's what they want."

Jurgen Klopp has been consistent in asking fans to celebrate in their homes amid fears of a second coronavirus spike.

But ahead of the trophy presentation the German has hailed Liverpool's success as one of the greatest in football history.

He said: “The moment when we get the trophy is 100 per cent what it’s all about in this wonderful sport. It’s one of the big stories in football history.

“It is truly special and we are lucky to be part of this, so we will savour it and rightly so. It’s just that it is a really big one.

“Not that other championships will be ever forgotten by the supporters, but this one, nobody will ever forget. It’s not possible. That is what makes this so special.”
