Andy Robertson has been asked about Liverpool closing in on the signing of midfielder Thiago Alcantara.
After months of intense speculation, the Reds have made their move to bring the Bayern Munich playmaker to Anfield.
The ECHO understands that the deal is not at an advanced stage but discussions have taken place between the two clubs.
It is believed Thiago is keen to move to Merseyside but terms have not quite yet been finalised, despite reports of a four-year deal being agreed earlier this year.
Robertson was asked about the prospect of linking up with Thiago at Liverpool - but the Scotland skipper was coy with his response.
“When you’re at a club like Liverpool, you get linked with players all the time,” Robertson told Sky Sports.
“For us, we focus on our squad. Nobody’s in Melwood, in terms of Thiago or any other player, for new signings right now.
“Until something is signed on the dotted line, then we don’t listen to the rumours."
He continued: “In terms of us, our aim is to excite fans, we excited fans last season and we made them believe that we’d won the league by Christmas time, but we didn’t.
“So if we’re not exciting our fans then we’re not doing something right.
“If the club are exciting our fans by a potential link or a rumour that we’re going to sign a player, then I suppose they’re doing something right.
“I’ve watched him (Thiago), he’s a fantastic player who’s full of talent and he would add to the squad and probably any team in the world.
“If we get him then great, if we don’t then it is what it is, but we wait and see until it’s definitely confirmed, then I can maybe sit down again and talk about his qualities.”
And other members of the squad have seemingly made their feelings clear.
Both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk 'liked' a tweet on Twitter from journalist Paul Joyce.
The post from Joyce concerned the deal for Thiago, and read: "Liverpool will pay £20m guaranteed plus £5m in bonuses to Bayern for Thiago Alcantara. Player will sign a four year deal and wear the No6 jersey."
