Liverpool players' dressing room reaction to Thiago Alcantara transfer

Liverpool have snapped up Thiago Alcantara - and the dressing room is said to be excited by the move.

The Reds thought long and hard about landing the Bayern Munich ace.

It was reported that one concern was the potential for unrest by leaving Jurgen Klopp with a bloated squad and unable to give all his midfielders adequate playing time.

But they decided that was a risk worth taking with Thiago arriving on a long-term deal for a guaranteed fee of £20million, potentially rising to £26million.

And it has now been claimed that existing Reds players have done plenty of talking regarding the deal with a general consensus that the move will provide a boost.

After winning the Premier League title at a canter last season, Thiago's addition will freshen things up and players are pleased to be joined by another world class option.

"All the boys were talking about it,” one dressing-room source told The Athletic.

“A signing like this gives everyone a boost. It shows that the club really means business and extra competition for places puts even more hunger in the squad.

“We’re not talking about someone coming in as back-up, we’re talking about an elite player who has won loads of trophies and can really make a big difference on the field. He fits the ilk of the kind of player you want to see Liverpool bring in.

“The midfield is one area that Klopp regularly rotates and, with the schedule as it is, the more options we have in there the better.”

Speaking about his new midfielder, Klopp tipped Thiago to bring a host of attributes to his existing midfield.

"He can demand rhythm, that’s how it is," Klopp said.

"He can obviously create and use space for other players, all these kinds of things. First touch incredible; vision incredible; passing pretty good!

"But is quick as well. Work-rate great. His numbers were absolutely special last year in Germany as well, most steals, ball recoveries and all these kinds of things; most passes.

"But we don’t play like Bayern, so that still will need some time to get settled and nobody should expect – and I don’t expect – the special things immediately, first game, let’s see. It’s a long-term project and we have a good team, so we can give time.

"But, of course, we want to use him on the pitch, that’s clear. So the work can start now."
