Liverpool players and staff have backed Rafael Camacho after the youngster spoke out following his hat-trick for the under-23s.
Camacho scored a second-half treble as the Reds youngsters romped to a 6-0 win at Leicester City in Premier League 2 on Sunday.
The 18-year-old, who regularly trains with Jurgen Klopp's first-team squad, has spent much of the season featuring for the U23s in an attacking role.
However, he was handed his full senior debut by Klopp at right-back in the FA Cup third round defeat at Wolverhampton Wanderers in January, and later made a brief Premier League bow in the position as an injury-time substitute against Crystal Palace.
And Camacho has caused a stir with an Instagram post regarding his position.
"I do now know whose idea it is, but I will prove that they are mistaken about my football," said the Portuguese.
"I'm not a right defender, I'm an attacker who scores goals. This is my DNA.
"Happy to score 3 goals and help the team in today's win v Leicester."
The post has since been liked by team-mates Gini Wijnaldum, Rhian Brewster, Pedro Chirivella and Shamal George, along with Liverpool goalkeeper coach John Achterberg.
Reports over the weekend have suggested Camacho, who is out of contract at the end of next season, is unsettled at Liverpool and may seek a move in the summer.
Earlier this year, Sporting Lisbon were linked with potential interest in the teenager.
