Liverpool player ratings vs Salzburg as star emerges in Champions League win

Alisson Becker 8

Double save from Hwang and Minamino as Salzburg started brightly, and another good stop from Haaland. Handled so well throughout.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 7

Caught out a few times defensively but improved, and fired one shot over. Much better after break, played a part in the opener and close with a free-kick.

Dejan Lovren 7

Haaland immediately on his shoulder but mostly did well until being forced off early for a second successive game through injury.

Virgil van Dijk 7

Needed to make early, important interventions to stop Haaland and Hwang. Organised the back line brilliantly.

Andy Robertson 8

Some vital tackles with Salzburg looking to overload the Liverpool left. Space began to open up as the home side started to press after the interval, allowing his part in Keita's goal. Excellent.

Jordan Henderson 8

A busy main shield for the backline and attempted to control the tempo first half. Used the ball well, particularly with the pass for Salah to score the second. Very good.

Gini Wijnaldum 7

Plenty of endeavour and moved the ball well, but a bit easy for Salzburg to bypass him in first half-hour before Liverpool got to grips with the midfield.

Naby Keita 9

One shot blocked and good set-up for Salah and had a decent chance on half-time. Defensive work improved and his well-taken header sucked the life out of his former stomping ground. Subbed to an ovation.

Mohamed Salah 8

Missed two great chances first half and another after the break, but his pace constantly stretched Salzburg's defence and took his goal from an acute angle brilliantly. Excellent all-round.

Roberto Firmino 6

Loose possession put Liverpool under pressure too many times first half. Improved as he dropped deeper and Salah went high. Subbed.

Sadio Mane 8

Wide with one curler in opening moments and saw another effort saved. So lively once again, Salzburg couldn't contain his runs and excellent work to create the opener.

Joe Gomez (for Lovren 53) 7

Slotted in at centre-back seamlessly and helped negate the threat of Haaland.

James Milner (for Firmino 75) 7

Brought experience to the collective effort.

Divock Origi (for Keita 87)

Belgian.
