Liverpool player ratings vs Porto - Jordan Henderson excellent and Virgil van Dijk has a new trademark

Alisson Becker 7

Made two good saves from Marega within moments of each other first half. Solid after the break.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 7

A little exposed down the right when left one-on-one with Marega, but a regular outlet going forward and provided the cross for the second. Survived a VAR penalty claim for handball.

Virgil van Dijk 7

Marshalled the backline superbly and made things look easy. The chest-pass-as-clearance-instead-of-header is becoming his trademark.

Dejan Lovren 7

A first start in more than three months, composed up against a sprightly Porto attack that caused some problems with their pace, particularly before the interval.

Spurs injury to Harry Kane could hand Manchester City big title advantage over Liverpool

James Milner 7

Reprised his left-back role and did what was expected of him. Positionally sound and put in some much-needed challenges but, understandably, not as capable as Robertson as bombing down the flak.

Fabinho 6

Strangely off-key first-half performance from the Brazilian, who misjudged a number of aerial balls and was a bit ponderous. Bit better second half, but not his best night.

Jordan Henderson 8

Bounded around in a slightly more advanced role, and put in a great pass down the inside right channel to set in motion Liverpool’s second goal. Excellent energy and made some fine challenges.

Naby Keita 7

Deserved the fortune of the deflection for his opener with a lively display, constantly looking to play – and often finding – an incisive ball. Tenacious, too. Quieter in the second half.

Former Premier League referee compares Liverpool and Manchester City penalty incidents in Champions League

Mohamed Salah 7

Often had the beating of Porto left-back Telles and always threatened when in possession. Earned cheers from the Kop when tracking back and covering a dangerous first-half counter.

Roberto Firmino 9

Continued his excellent form with an assist for the opener and then in the right place to tap in the second. Had joy when dropping deep also. Some of his footwork was delicious.

Sadio Mane 6

Played his part in the opener but otherwise a case of nearly but not quite for the Senegalese, highlighted by a second-half strike rightly disallowed for offside. Missed the overlapping of the suspended Robertson. Subbed.

Divock Origi (for Mane 73) 6

Ran at Porto from the second he was introduced but a bit slack at times.

Daniel Sturridge (for Firmino 82)

Minutes.
