Liverpool player ratings vs Brentford: Mohamed Salah in blistering form as Nunez and Alexander-Arnold impress

Liverpool moved above Arsenal and Tottenham into second place in the Premier League as they beat Brentford 3-0 at Anfield.

Following defeat by Toulouse in the Europa League on Thursday, Liverpool returned to winning ways with a clinical performance.

After Darwin Nunez had two goals disallowed for offside, Mohamed Salah scored a brace to put Jurgen Klopp's side 2-0 up.

Diogo Jota added a third late on to make absolutely sure that the three points went to the hosts.

Dom Smith was at Anfield assessing the Liverpool players’ performances…

Alisson 7

Produced a brilliant save to deny Bryan Mbeumo when he went one-on-one with the Brazilian, and stayed alert whenever he was needed.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 8

Excellent performance from the England international. His long passes and deep crosses were as difficult to defend against as they always are.

Joel Matip 6

Made a few nice forays forward with the ball and was solid.

Virgil van Dijk 7

Dominant in the air and nearly scored in the first half when his header was saved by a sprawling Mark Flekken.

Kostas Tsimikas 7

Picked up two assists, first crossing for Salah’s second and then playing back for Jota to fire in the third.

Dominik Szoboszlai 6

Tried to get forward from midfield as best he could, but this was a game when other attackers came to the fore for the Reds.

Wataru Endo 7

Could have been sent off when VAR took a closer look at his studs-up challenge on Christian Norgaard, but that was the only negative on an otherwise assured outing by the Japanese.

Cody Gakpo 7

Took up some nice positions in pockets of space and put on a decent all-round display.

Mohamed Salah 9

Salah is in blistering form at the moment and almost single-handedly helped Liverpool leapfrog Spurs and Arsenal into second with a brace.

Darwin Nunez 8

Didn’t score, but did find the net twice with offside strikes and assisted Salah’s first. A really good performance from the Uruguayan, who was threatening throughout.

Diogo Jota 7

Came alive late in the second half when he belted the ball past Flekken to make it 3-0.
