Liverpool player ratings - Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino score but no excuses for Adrian at Southampton

Adrian 6

Had one clearance charged down first half and slightly jittery with ball at feet but made point-blank save to keep out Yoshida header. No excuse for that mistake for Ings goal, though.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 6

Deliveries not quite there from the right-back until a good one almost put in Firmino. Tested by Adams defensively. More effective going forward as game progressed.

Joel Matip 7

Caught out by Adams once with a ball over the top first half. Dealt with most problems if often close to the edge. Passing better than on Wednesday, too.

Virgil van Dijk 7

Unruffled in the face of some half-hearted jeering. Too strong for Adams on several occasions and helped repel the late Southampton charge.

Andy Robertson 7

Saw a lot of the ball but a bit wasteful in possession first half. Kept honest by Valery and Ward-Prowse, then began to stretch his legs after the break and drew great save from Gunn.

Gini Wijnaldum 6

Playing in front of the back four, kept things simple but a little loose on the ball at times. Enjoyed using his strength and grew in confidence after interval.

James Milner 6

Clash of heads with Ward-Prowse kept him off the field for repairs for several minutes, but didn't stop him getting stuck in. Shot narrowly wide after the break, but one bad pass led to a chance for Ings. Subbed.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain 6

Dropped into a more accustomed right-sided midfield role, far more comfortable than in midweek and more lively as a result. One good pass created Salah chance. Subbed.

Mohamed Salah 6

Couple of clever flicks early on and in behind once for a half-chance but wasn't able to affect the game much first half. Spurned good opening after interval before being replaced.

Roberto Firmino 8

Back into the starting line-up, dropped deep in pursuit of the ball and got his rewards in the second half, atoning for one missed chance with a finely-taken strike for the second.

Sadio Mane 8

Clobbered twice in opening minutes and peripheral until his stunning curler for the opener just before the break. Turned provider for Firmino's goal and a threat second half.

Fabinho (for Milner 74) 6

A couple of decent headers in midfield.

Divock Origi (for Salah 79)

More helping out defence than going forward.

Jordan Henderson (for Oxlade-Chamberlain 89)

Win bonus.
