Liverpool player ratings as Trent Alexander-Arnold and Darwin Nunez good along with five others

Alisson Becker 7

Caused consternation with one lazy clearance first half but untroubled until excellent point-blank save late on to deny Colak.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 8

Curled in a beautiful free-kick for the opener and attacking distribution regularly cut through Rangers. Defensively solid. Subbed.

Joel Matip 8

Involved in a ferocious battle with the awkward Morelos and stood for no nonsense from the forward, who had departed long before the final whistle.

Virgil van Dijk 7

More composed and confident than at the weekend, which allowed him to be more decisive in his challenges.

Kostas Tsimikas 6

Deliveries from the left not always accurate but overall performance an obvious improvement on Saturday.

Jordan Henderson 8

Injected tempo into Liverpool’s game from the first whistle and enjoyed a bit more freedom in a deeper role. Created good chance for Nunez. Subbed.

Thiago Alcantara 8

Passing helped pull Rangers all over the place before the break and kept Liverpool on the front foot. Good defensive shift second half. Subbed.

Mohamed Salah 8

Revelled in the space afforded him down the right and gave Barisic a tough time, and close with one curling effort first half. Slotted penalty confidently home. Fine showing.

Diogo Jota 7

Brought thrust and purpose playing off Nunez and direct running was often too much for Rangers. Solicited fine stop from McGregor second half but faded after break. Subbed.

Luis Diaz 8

Pressing hounded Rangers defence and one of many to be denied by McGregor before break. Excellent run and trickery coaxed the penalty for the second.

Darwin Nunez 8

Won the free-kick for the opener, and denied three times by McGregor first half. Linked much better with team-mates and fine performance missing only a goal. Subbed.

Roberto Firmino (for Jota 69) 6

Brought on in an attacking midfield role.

Fabinho (for Henderson 69) 6

Helped keep the Rangers midfield at bay.

Harvey Elliott (for Nunez 80)

Minutes for the youngster.

James Milner (for Thiago 80)

Minutes for the veteran.

Joe Gomez (for Alexander-Arnold 90+3)

Hello.
