Liverpool player ratings as Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson shine against Everton

Adrian 6

Decent stop near-post from Calvert-Lewin but needed stronger hands for the equaliser. Saved from Rodriguez second half and no chance with the second.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 6

Saw one fine free-kick saved but defensively a little slack on occasion. More accurate in distribution later on but leveller came from his wing.

Joel Matip 7

No signs of rustiness given his surprise start, and strong in the air when required. Denied a goal by a wonder save from Pickford.

Virgil van Dijk

A couple of strong tackles before being caught by an awful, unpunished Pickford challenge and having to limp off.

Andy Robertson 7

Created Mane’s opener and almost set up a second with another fine run. Such a threat down the left and kept going second half, but was left exposed for Everton’s second equaliser.

Fabinho 7

Helped close down the Everton midfield in the early stages and stuck his foot in when required. A little more difficult for him after the break. Booked and later subbed.

Thiago Alcantara 8

Used the ball well and slotted in effortlessly into midfield on his first Liverpool start. Influence grew late on and survived being cut in half by Richarlison.

Jordan Henderson 8

Brought sorely-missed energy and drive during the first half that allowed Liverpool to dominate. Close with one second-half effort and denied what should have been a dramatic late winner.

Mohamed Salah 7

A couple of weak finishes first half after working himself into good positions as threat didn’t equate to end product. Similar frustration after the interval until a blistering finish for Liverpool’s second.

Roberto Firmino 6

More lively than of late and found space dropping deep, but not enough incision first half. Same story after the break, despite plenty of endeavour. Subbed.

Sadio Mane 8

Tormented the right side of Everton’s defence with his direct running, scored once and should have had another. Booked.

Joe Gomez (for Van Dijk 11) 7

Didn’t have it all his own way against Calvert-Lewin first half but grew in confidence. Much more solid after the break.

Diogo Jota (for Firmino 78)

Biggest contribution was accidentally clipping Mane in the Everton area.

Gini Wijnaldum (for Fabinho 90+1)

Minutes.
