Liverpool player ratings as Salah shines but defender endures difficult Manchester United test

Alisson Becker 6

Smart save from Greenwood near post but couldn’t do much about the goals. Needlessly put Fabinho in bother with one pass.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 6

Didn’t make the most of a few early crossing opportunities and tough going up against Rashford. More of a threat after break.

Rhys Williams 5

Missed tackles on Cavani and Rashford but some key headers first half. Difficult afternoon and mistake allowed Rashford in for United’s second.

Fabinho 6

Caught out of position for the leveller, although general play was decent. Silly foul gifted Fernandes the chance to net winner. Booked.

Andy Robertson 6

Upfield when United broke to equalise and found Greenwood a handful. Dangerous going forward, though.

James Milner 7

Got through plenty of work as one of the deeper midfielders but not quite tall enough to cut ball out for first United goal. Good pressure prompted Liverpool’s second.

Gini Wijnaldum 6

Initiated the move for the opener and otherwise a lot of endeavour in some very tight midfield spaces. Subbed.

Thiago Alcantara 6

Not able to get a grip on proceedings before break and guilty of some necessary fouls. Moments of promise in second half. Subbed.

Mohamed Salah 8

Started slowly but came alive with superb finish for the opener. Slotted home the second and only denied hat-trick by Henderson saves.

Roberto Firmino 7

Pressed United’s defence well and brilliant pass released Salah for the opener and another clever ball assisted the second. Subbed.

Curtis Jones 7

A little lost early on but more involved when drifting into central areas. Competed well and kept on improving.

Booked for a strong foul on Fred but little extra threat.

Divock Origi (for Firmino 81)

Fouled by Lindelof when attempting to break.

Xherdan Shaqiri (for Wijnaldum 81)

Kicked the ball a few times.
