Clutched efforts from Gundogan and Haaland first half and excellent stop low down to deny the latter after break. Another assist for the goalkeeper, too.

Virgil van Dijk 9

Rarely allowed Haaland a run at goal before break and led the defensive line well. In the right place to head clear throughout.

Andy Robertson 8

Tough battle up against Cancelo and offered a constant threat going forward, firing over one angled drive.

Fabinho 7

Plenty of effort in helping shield the Liverpool defence and some relieving passes. Fouled in build-up to City disallowed goal. Booked and subbed.

Started well but passing not always on point and occasionally hounded out in the midfield battle. Got through a lot of work, though. Booked.

Harvey Elliott 7

Some decent defensive contributions first half and great energy to get around the park, and began to find joy going forward second half. Subbed.

Roberto Firmino 7

Helped the midfield win the ball on several occasions but a little slow in releasing team-mates on occasion. Better pressing second half. Subbed.

Diogo Jota 7

A few glimmers of promise going forward and pressed hard, but not always switched on to Cancelo forays. Missed great chance to score opener but workrate required in final quarter. Injury a worry, and subbed.

Mohamed Salah 9

Operating in a more central area, occupied the City defenders and looked threatening when given space. Denied by great Ederson save but did brilliantly to score the opener.

Darwin Nunez (for Firmino 73) 7

Occupied City defence with his strength and pace and created good chance for Alexander-Arnold.

Fabio Carvalho (for Elliott 73) 7

Won a clutch of free-kicks and showed good composure to prompt some counters.

Jordan Henderson (for Fabinho 73) 7

Got stuck in straight away and helped Liverpool see out the game.

Still enough time to almost score at the far post.
