Liverpool player ratings as Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold good vs Chelsea

Alisson Becker 7

No chance with the goal and quick to get off his line with Chelsea regularly breaking the last line. Another solid showing.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 8

Superb diagonal pass created good chance for Henderson and always looked to get Liverpool moving. Creative presence throughout second half.

Joel Matip 7

Occasional poor distribution allied with some rash decisions made it a proper iffy first half. The complete opposite during fine showing after break, not least with one necessary block on Lukaku.

Virgil van Dijk 7

Unhappy with some of the officiating and passing radar not quite 100%, but got to grips with Lukaku the longer the game progressed. Getting back to his best.

Andy Robertson 6

Not at most convincing defensively first half and forward forays blunted, while set-piece delivery not great. More composed after break, though.

Fabinho 6

Asked to do an awful lot whenever Chelsea swarmed forward from deep and benefited from both the dismissal of James and Kante going off injured.

Jordan Henderson 6

Missed good chance on volley early on and struggled to impose himself when starting on the left of the midfield three. Better when pushed more central and the ‘free’ man mostly in second half. Subbed.

Harvey Elliott 7

Just wide with early effort but over with another inviting chance. A mixture of class and occasional naivety from the 18-year-old, who was heavily involved second half.

Mohamed Salah 8

Made Alonso look foolish on more than one occasion and held nerve to score from spot. A constance menace down the right.

Roberto Firmino 6

Busy and always looked for the ball, although not everything came off before the Brazilian did shortly before the break.

Sadio Mane 7

Put James into touch inside opening seconds but didn’t have enough chance to stretch legs before the red card and was constantly at the Chelsea defence after that.

Diogo Jota (for Fimino 42) 6

Pressed into action by Firmino departure and presence instantly helped force the penalty. Over with one header.

Thiago Alcantara (for Henderson 74) 6

Unable to quite dictate matters as he would have liked during his cameo.

Kostas Tsimikas (for Robertson 86)

Minutes for the Greece international.
