Liverpool player ratings as Jurgen Klopp's men fall to 3-0 defeat against Napoli

European champions Liverpool were left stunned in Edinburgh as they fell to a 3-0 pre-season friendly defeat to Napoli.

The Reds were off the pace and comprehensively beaten by Carlo Ancelotti's Serie A runners-up at Murrayfield.

Star man Lorenzo Insigne opened the scoring for the Partenopei, the Italy international winger netting past Simon Mignolet with a fine finish.

Poland striker Arkadiusz Milik doubled the Italians' advantage before the break, stabbing home from close range.

Liverpool thrashed Napoli 5-0 in a pre-season encounter 12 months ago, but they found themselves 3-0 down shortly after the break, Amin Younes tapping home after Mignolet spilled an Insigne effort.

Here are the Reds' player ratings from the Scottish capital

Simon Mignolet 6

Couple of smart stops, but also maybe could have done better for third goal.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 6

Tormented by Insigne on flank, but still one of most effective going forward.

Joel Matip 5

Looks to be off the pace, and struggled when Napoli came inside off right.

Virgil van Dijk 6

Not his best game, and still seems to be coming into match-level fitness.

Andy Robertson 7

Eager early in the game, and Liverpool’s best source of a supply into box.

James Milner 6

As strong as ever in his running, but that edge he has not quite there yet.

Fabinho 7

Quietly effective as always, decent on ball, but exposed by lack of support.

Jordan Henderson 6

Another who hasn’t yet found that extra edge required for season’s start.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain 5

Sadly still looks a long way from full fitness, and seems a little gym-heavy.

Divock Origi 6

Great invention when nearly scoring early, but otherwise a very quiet outing.

Gini Wijnaldum 7

Probably the pick of an average bunch - running was strong and incisive.

Subs: Lovren 6 (Matip 62), Lallana 6 (Henderson 62), Brewster 6 (Origi 62), Wilson 6 (Oxlade-Chamberlain 62), Gomez 6 (Alexander-Arnold 74), Hoever 6 (Robertson 74) , van Den Berg 6 (van Dijk 80) , Elliott 6 (Milner 80), Lewis 6 (Wijnaldum 80), Duncan 6 (Fabinho 80)

Napoli: Meret 6; Di Lorenzo 7, Maksimovic 6, Manolos 7, Silva 6; Insigne 8, Zielinski 7, Callejon 7, Verdi 6; Milik 7, Mertens 6

MOTM: Lorenzo Insigne.
