Liverpool player ratings as Joel Matip good but three others awful against Burnley

Alisson Becker 5

Dropped one cross under pressure from Wood but saved Barnes follow-up. Safe handling otherwise but conceded the decisive penalty with his rush from the line.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 4

Plenty of ball, particularly in the second half, but far too often he chose the wrong cross and his shots weren’t that great either.

Joel Matip 7

One good interception before break and a lot of wondering when the assistant referee was going to put his flag up. Easily Liverpool’s best player. Booked.

Fabinho 6

Felt a late one from Barnes and then got caught up in a ruck with the Burnley clodhopper on the half-time whistle. Booked.

Andy Robertson 5

Plenty of work at both ends of the pitch during the first half but couldn’t contribute any quality of note as Liverpool ran out of ideas.

Gini Wijnaldum 5

A lot of work and some good challenges first half but unable to find real spark. Marginally better after that and one fine run created chance for Salah.

Thiago Alcantara 5

Caught by a late one from Barnes but passing under pressure was decent before break. Too deep to be an influence second half, though.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain 4

Had one shot but otherwise massively off the pace and barely involved. Struggling for sharpness after his lengthy injury lay-off. Subbed.

Xherdan Shaqiri 5

A couple of clever passes and one fine cross, but largely frustrated first half. Couldn’t find the key after the break. Subbed.

Sadio Mane 5

Took the fight to the Burnley defence but wasn’t able to fashion many openings. Frustrated as the rest of the Liverpool team.

Divock Origi 4

On the periphery in the opening quarter but signs of life before half-time. Should have done better than hitting underside of bar when clean through. Subbed.

Mohamed Salah (for Origi 57) 6

Denied by Pope moments after being introduced. Looked lively.

Roberto Firmino (for Oxlade-Chamberlain 57) 5

Went on up front to pressure the Burnley backline but missed a decent half-chance.

Takumi Minamino (for Shaqiri 84)

Hopeless task.
