Caoimhin Kelleher 8
Denied Mazraoui in either half and made brilliant stop from Huntelaar in closing stages. Distribution confident on an impressive and composed Champions League debut.
Neco Williams 8
Improved on recent displays which wasn’t always straightforward up against Neres. Great engine and deep cross provided the opener for Jones.
Joel Matip 8
Stepped out of the defensive line on occasion and provided assistance to Williams first half. Good headers second half as Ajax threatened.
Fabinho 8
Caught under one long ball first half but otherwise extremely assured with required blocks and interceptions. Snuffs out danger so well.
Andy Robertson 7
Caused alarm when needing strapping on left ankle first half during which he almost caught out Onana at the keeper’s near post. More progressive after break.
Jordan Henderson 8
Looked to move Liverpool forward regularly and regularly broke out of midfield. The skipper’s constant cajoling boomed around the empty Anfield. Booked.
Gini Wijnaldum 8
Got through plenty of work and shut down a number of Ajax attacks, and positionally disciplined throughout. Booked.
Curtis Jones 9
Unlucky to strike post with effort early on and mature beyond his teenage years in both attacking and defensive roles in midfield, with the highlight his cleverly-taken goal. Outstanding.

Mohamed Salah 7
Neat lay-off created the early chance for Jones but otherwise quiet before break. Came to life as gaps opened on the counter-attack, but denied his goal. Subbed.
Diogo Jota 7
Made things happen with his direct runs from a central position, which Ajax found difficult to contain at times. Subbed.
Sadio Mane 7
Had the beating of Mazraoui but found Schuurs a lot more tricky in a fascinating tussle, coaxing a booking out of the defender with one run. Booked.
Roberto Firmino (for Jota 68) 7
Lively cameo, not least when he tried to take on the entire Ajax team by running in a straight line. Later hit the post.
Rhys Williams (for Salah 90)
