Liverpool player ratings as Xherdan Shaqiri and Curtis Jones star in thrashing of Lincoln

Adrian 7

A couple of solid saves first half but otherwise pretty untroubled. Busier after the break and made three stops in quick succession in a remarkable passage of play.

Neco Williams 6

Always on the front foot but given some problems defensively by Melbourne. Hampered at times by a lack of composure. Still learning, though.

Rhys Williams 6

Helped along by Van Dijk, gained confidence from an early interception and fine diagonal pass set up the third. More difficult second half as Lincoln simply went for it.

Virgil van Dijk 6

Cajoled Williams through the opening 45 minutes without breaking sweat. Wasn’t needed second half with the job done.

Kostas Tsimikas 7

Plenty of willingness to augment the attack and some decent deliveries from out wide. An encouraging debut.

Curtis Jones 9

Won the free-kick for the opener and then bludgeoned in two superb finishes and had a part in the fifth. Not exactly lacking in confidence, the youngster. Excellent.

Marko Grujic 6

Took a little time to get up with the pace of the game and then neat in possession mostly. Got in on the scoring act with his first for the club. Conceded some silly free-kicks, though.

Xherdan Shaqiri 8

Excellent from a deeper midfield role, worked endlessly throughout and curled home an outstanding free-kick for the opener.

Harvey Elliott 7

On the periphery in the early stages but played a part in two goals and drew a save from Palmer. His shot prompted the save for the fifth. Subbed.

Takumi Minamino 8

Fantastic finish for Liverpool’s second and caused problems with his instant touch and willingness to drop into midfield. Popped up again to convert the fifth.

Divock Origi 6

Fine cushioned header laid on the third goal and set up the second, but always gave the impression he could have been in the game more before scoring late on.

Fabinho (for Van Dijk 46) 6

Tested somewhat more than the player he replaced, but barely out of first gear.

Diogo Jota (for Elliott 57) 6

Slotted in on the left on debut and wide with one effort.

Naby Keita (for Shaqiri 75) 6

Minutes for the midfielder.
