Liverpool player ratings as Andy Robertson good but Alisson poor against Aston Villa

Alisson Becker 6

Safely held Konsa header and confident in his distribution but poor for Watkins’ opener.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 7

Close with one curling free-kick and far more consistent with distribution going forward, but struggled a little second half before smashing in the winner.

Nat Phillips 6

One scary moment up against the pace of Watkins but otherwise won the arm-wrestle first half but perhaps not quite as dominant after the break.

Ozan Kabak 5

Caught out in the first minute and then gave the ball away for the Villa opener. Spooked after that and a little shaky on occasion. Subbed.

Andy Robertson 8

Busy down the left and when cutting infield, and a danger with his deliveries from set-pieces. His drive forward and shot created the equaliser. Very good.

Fabinho 7

Much better than in Madrid and soon helped Liverpool on to the front foot first half and remained an influence throughout.

Gini Wijnaldum 6

The most subdued of the midfield trio, his inconsistent display encapsulated when he overhit one pass to release Salah inside the area. Subbed.

James Milner 7

Quite happy to stick his foot in and mix it with his former club. Experience and industry made a difference. Booked.

Mohamed Salah 7

Put a great chance wide early on and seemed to retreat into his shell a bit after that, but came again second half and on hand to equalise.

Roberto Firmino 7

Scored a perfectly good goal that was disallowed for a laughable offside in first-half injury time, which would have been deserved reward for a lively performance. Subbed.

Diogo Jota 7

Should have done better when sending a header over from a corner, and more of a threat down the left than in the centre.

Thiago Alcantara (for Wijnaldum 70) 7

Passing on point and great volley helped prompt the winner.

Sadio Mane (for Firmino 74) 5

Struggled to get up to speed with the game and gave the ball away regularly.

Xherdan Shaqiri (for Kabak 88)

On long enough to show enough quality with his part in the winner.
