Liverpool player ratings as Joe Gomez and Jordan Henderson stand out at Man City

Alisson Becker 8

Decent stop from Sterling first half atoned for his pass putting Wijnaldum into trouble. Commanded his area well and, at times, also outside the box too.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 6

Clearly asked to press forward early on but pushed back by Sterling, and was caught out by Jesus for the equaliser. One shot almost crept through Ederson. Injured and subbed.

Joel Matip 7

A little ungainly at times but a couple of good interceptions and fed the midfield intelligently. Wobbled a bit in second half but did well to last the distance.

Joe Gomez 8

Penalised a little harshly for City’s missed penalty but otherwise composed and decisive in his defending, particularly during tough moments after the break.

Andy Robertson 7

Solid defensively and always a threat going forward with some neat interplay involving Wijnaldum and Mane in particular. Decent.

Jordan Henderson 8

Got through a mighty amount of work and delivered some fine, probing passes. Set the Liverpool tempo once more and then dropped in as City pressed.

Gini Wijnaldum 7

Like his skipper, so busy in the engine room but pulled out of position for De Bruyne to assist the equaliser. Great engine meant he was still going strong in the final minute.

Diogo Jota 6

Almost toe-poked in on the line before the break but given regular reminders by Klopp regarding his defensive duties down the right and later switched to the left.

Roberto Firmino 6

Outfoxed by Ederson when clear in the opening minute, otherwise much more lively and busy in the hole behind Salah. Faded a little after break and subbed.

Sadio Mane 7

Started brilliantly and superb skill earned Liverpool’s spot kick but a little too risky in possession near his own goal at times. Looked tired in the second half, though.

Mohamed Salah 7

Thundered home his penalty with the minimum of fuss and a constant menace down the middle with his pace. Forced to feed on scraps the longer the game progressed.

Xherdan Shaqiri (for Firmino 59) 6

Slotted on the right of midfield and full of energy, and defensively did his bit.

James Milner (for Alexander-Arnold 63) 7

Fitted in at right-back and stood up well against Sterling.
