Liverpool player ratings as Roberto Firmino struggles against Manchester United

Alisson Becker 8

Little to do for an hour then saved well from Fernandes and Pogba, with positioning and distribution impressive throughout.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 6

Unsteady start defensively but grew into the game and impressed with range of passing. Became more of an influence but deliveries inconsistent.

Jordan Henderson 7

Won a few aerial duels and looked to play longer balls out from the back. Didn’t look uncomfortable up against Martial and then Cavani.

Fabinho 8

Thunderous tackle on Martial the highlight of a solid first half. Maintained focus after break and aggressive when needed. Booked.

Andy Robertson 7

Good defending up against Rashford early on and offered himself constantly in attack. Pressed back a little after the break.

Gini Wijnaldum 6

A few early troubles against Pogba but soon began to impose himself with good distribution. Tired during more difficult second half. Subbed.

Thiago Alcantara 7

Some exquisite passing but pace of the game at times caught him out in first half. Got a second wind and drew good save from De Gea with effort from range late on.

Xherdan Shaqiri 7

Excellent pass in for Mane created chance for Firmino and really lively in opening quarter. Remained steady after break. Booked and subbed.

Mohamed Salah 6

Kept on going up against Shaw first half before swapping flanks. Began to become frustrated by Maguire in second half, though.

Roberto Firmino 5

Missed one decent chance and off target with a more speculative effort. Some clever touches but finishing not great. Subbed.

Sadio Mane 7

Made life difficult for Wan-Bissaka with his physicality early on and continued to threaten.

Curtis Jones (for Shaqiri 76) 6

Divock Origi (for Firmino 85)

Won a corner with his direct running.

James Milner (for Wijnaldum 89)

Headed the ball.
