Liverpool player ratings against Chelsea as Fabinho and Sadio Mane run the show

Alisson Becker 8

Decisive when called upon in the final quarter, saving a penalty from Jorginho and beating out an Abraham drive.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 7

More solid defensively than against Leeds, although Chelsea largely limited his forward forays first half. Allowed to roam with greater freedom after break. Always probing.

Fabinho 9

Moved to centre-back, won important battles up against the speedy Werner early on and sound positional sense meant the Chelsea man was well subdued come full-time. Excellent from the Brazilian.

Virgil van Dijk 7

Helped cajole Fabinho through the opening period but surprisingly didn’t have it his own way in the air up against Havertz. Few problems after the break.

Andy Robertson 7

Regular outlet down the left and enjoyed his tussle with Kante and, at times, the raiding James. Spent second half primarily on edge of Chelsea area.

Jordan Henderson 8

Provided drive and determination from the number six role and passing set the tempo in an impressive first-half showing. Great ball set Mane clear for the red card, but injury that forced half-time substitution will be a worry.

Gini Wijnaldum 7

Dragged an early shot wide but otherwise bogged down by the war of attrition first half. Later improved and fired effort at Kepa’s legs.

Naby Keita 6

Tough going in the midfield muddle to pick a pass but held his own before interval. Good energy. Subbed.

Mohamed Salah 7

Always on the front foot and regularly raided into the area even before Chelsea were reduced to 10 men. Played part in opener and will have enjoyed this outcome.

Roberto Firmino 7

Occupied the Chelsea centre-backs at the expense of his own game first half, and revelled in the extra space after the sending-off. Fine cross for the opener. Not spared Klopp ire at times, though. Subbed.

Sadio Mane 9

Powerful run prompted the game-changing red card from Christensen, and came alive after break with fine header for the first and great determination for the second. Could have had hat-trick late on but for rare Kepa save.

Thiago Alcantara (for Henderson 46) 8

Slipped into the number six role effortlessly and instantly seemed at ease around his new team-mates. Can play a bit.

James Milner (for Keita 64) 7

Added experience and solidity to the midfield, and caught the ear with some humorous shouts.

Takumi Minamino (for Firmino 86)

Lively cameo.
